birthday dress

I often hate making a big deal out of my birthday, but this year’s celebration was extra special, so I thought it would definitely be worth a share. I knew months ago that I had to celebrate in the Hamptons. I’ve spent the past few birthdays in New York and nothing seemed better than spending the last weekend of my summer hidden out in the Hamptons, eating breakfast outside, sitting by the pool, and shopping in town.

Mine’s in green, but I’m also obsessed with this red Eddie Parker clutch

I have loved Nick and Toni’s ever since I was a little girl, their food is delicious if you haven’t tried it (the zucchini chips are worth all the calories, trust me), and knew it would be the perfect spot to ring in my birthday surrounded by friends and family.

Last night I decided to wear a very beautiful off the shoulder Charlotte Ronson dress  I purchased at Blue & Cream this weekend. I accessorized with a gorgeous green and lucite Eddie Parker clutch and snakeskin Chrissie Morris heels.

Since I’m always chilly I threw on a Current Elliott denim jacket that kept the look more casual. I was head over heels about the look, sometimes it just feels good to go all out. I was so happy to spend a calm evening out East, eating delicious food, surrounded by loved ones. It was a birthday I’ll always remember, xo.

an uptown look with downtown shoes

On Friday I decided to give the days look a bit of edge with the addition of my new favorite black boots from Isabel Marant. I love that the Jenny boot is scrunched down and a shorter cut allowing them to be worn with both pants and dresses. I’d worn them the night before when I decided to add a little something special to the ALC dress I wore to work, however with the weekend hours away and a strong urge to just be comfortable I knew I would have to wear the boots with whatever particular office look I wore the next day.

Katie Holmes loves to rock her Isabel Marant boots with dresses and skirts

I hadn’t worn my pink silk maxi skirt in quite sometime and the weather was super nice for most of the day, so I decided to wear the skirt with an easy silk patterned tank from Joie. The addition of the booties added a downtown vibe to the more classic uptown look. Mixing and matching thought is the best way to always be chic, xo.

power dress

I’m starting to see a pattern in my summer wardrobe, I’m wearing a whole lot of ALC and almost everything I’ve bought in the last three months is from Blue & Cream. Not a bad combination whatsoever! Here’s the thing about it, when I find a line that I love, that’s chic, versatile, and fits me well, that’s all I need, and a store the carries a line and just happens to be run by two friends, Jeff and Sam, well it’s obviously a match made in heaven.

After lots of rain and terrible humidity, New York weather calmed down yesterday to make for a gorgeous summer sunny day. I decided to debut a dress that I purchased a few weeks ago at Blue & Cream. The ALC Hanna Dress is a beautiful black, brown, and grey pattern, made from silk, and while it is a tad shorter, made so by the tie at the waist, the long sleeves balance the dress out making for a work appropriate look. I decided go with simple black Tkees (these days my favorite footwear), left it at that.

If the dress is powerful, which this ALC dress is, than accessories shouldn’t really matter. Especially in the ever changing weather of New York summers simplicity is the key to dressing for success, and not sweating it out of course, xo.

casual denim

It’s hard to believe, but it’s true, I’m not a huge fan of shorts. I used to wear them all the time, but as I’ve got older I now tend to gravitate towards long flowy skirts or cute summer dresses. To some people denim shorts of hugely significant of summer, in fact their summer wardrobes consist of multicolored denim, distressed denim, the list goes on.

celebs like Alessandra Ambrosio are often spotted in the denim trend

Sam Greenes, friend and head buyer at Blue & Cream, is almost never spotted at work without her denim on. I love how she pairs them with a variety of loose tanks and tees and a great pair of Marant sneakers or a classic Tkee to make the traditional warm weather look her own. For Sunday brunch this past weekend I decided to channel Sam. For the first time this season I wore a pair of J.Brand cutoffs that Sam had promised I’d need and eventually wear, with a favorite white oversized Enza Costa tank and Haviannas.

It was the perfect casual Sunday look for brunch with friends and then a walk around Soho. It’s never too late to find another summer staple, because well there’s always next summer, so for the next few weekends from the Hamptons to Boston I’ll be rockin’ some denim a la Sam, xo.

the leather look

Each season requires a different look, but some seasons are much easier than others. For instance, I find it ten times easier to get dressed in the fall and winter than in the summer. I find that in the hotter months I often recycle looks, long skirts and dresses, and loose trousers, whereas when it’s time to bundle up I’m constantly adding and subtracting layers and having fun wearing different boots each day.

As of recent I’ve added a new item to next seasons wardrobe. Welcome the leather look. I’d been wanting for several months now a great pair of leather pants and of course found them, where else, at Blue & Cream. Helmut Lang’s leather leggings are easy to dress up or down and are one of the hottest looks this season. Kristen Stewart rocks them on the red carpet, Kim Kardashian is said to own numerous pairs, Kelly Bensimon was spotted in her’s earlier this summer paired with Manolos, and I’m excited to debut mine come the fall in Boston with cute Isabel Marant booties, and alternative blouses and sweaters, xo.

Roger that

Jack Rogers have always been a part of my warm weather shoe collection. When I was a little girl I always had a pair of pink and white navajos on my feet whether it was for dinner at World Pie or an early morning trip to the beach.

Jack Rogers are more than sandals to me, so though I have several friends who don’t love them on, when I wear them I’m reminded of fun, carefree childhood moments, and especially during a long week, sometimes a small reminded is exactly what’s needed.

Selma Blair

I love that Jack Rogers come in so many colors, Selma Blair was seen wearing a gold shade during the last few months of her pregnancy and Jackie O was known to have been a fan too. I adore my rose gold pair, they are the perfect throw on and hint of color to make a darker outfit have more summer flair, like when I paired them with a Current Elliott denim jacket and a linen maxi dress from Calypso to the office yesterday. I added some Jennifer Fisher charms which carried the gold throughout the look. The ideal summer shoe makes for the chicest summer look, xo.

denim craze

It’s all about denim this fall and well, it’s never too early in the season to invest in the perfect denim jacket. In fact, a denim jacket in the summer can make for the ideal weekend casual brunch look or a comfortable, but chic travel add on. I’m obsessed with the denim jacket I purchased at Blue & Cream this weekend. Earlier in the summer I fell in love with Current Elliott – all their denim is fantastic.

Of course I coveted their denim jacket for several months before at long last this weekend finding the exact one that I wanted. I wore it yesterday paired with a long dress from Calypso and a Jerome Dreyfuss Twee.

What I love most about the denim is that it can be both dressed up and down. I wore it casually for a late lunch and early dinner, but later in the week I’ll jazz it up and make it work appropriate. I love the dark wash, adorable snap buttons, and the cropped shape makes it easy to wear with longer dresses and skirts. A denim jacket is without a doubt a fashion must, xo.

bend it like Beckett

I’ve adored Etoile Isabel Marant’s Becketts since I saw them earlier in the year on such fashionistas as Miranda Kerr. It was only until recently though, when I saw them on friend and head buyer for Blue & Cream, Sam Greenes, that I feel completely head over heels in love with them. After much research I came up empty handed with several hundred “sold outs”.

However, on Friday I discovered that Barney’s had them back in stock, in the color I wanted, and in my size! The sheer excitement of finding them though wasn’t enough to make me press purchase. I suddenly realized that though I admired them via pictures and on Sam, personally they would sit on my shoe shelf, gathering dust, and unworn.

Plus the extra liftwould make me  almost too tall! So alas I didn’t purchase the Becketts, and though I do have a bit of buyer’s remorse, I realize that’s the beautiful thing about fashion, sometimes it’s nice enough to look, but not to touch, xo.

beige for the beach

Earlier last week I wore a very earthy colored outfit and this weekend I decided to where it once again, but this time in the Hamptons. I love J.Brands these days and their tan skinnies are the perfect color to tote along for a casual weekend.

I decided to stick with the lighter hues, but add a contrast of green with a oversized James Perse tee. I layered the look with a fitted Enza Costa tan long sleeve tee.

My favorite part of the look was the Jerome Dreyfuss cross body bag that added a hint of downtown vibe and is a much appreciated break from the usual enormous bags I carry in the city. Of course Tkees made the outfit beach friendly and were the appropriate choice for a walk around town and lunch in Montauk, xo.

all American girl

Yesterday’s outfit was very patriotic, but unintentionally so. I purchased a pair of red J.Brand skinnies back in June, but never seemed to have a chance to wear them, however Friday just felt like the appropriate day to try the look.

(similar from J.Crew)

I went the traditional route adding a blue and white striped tee from Vince as well as Isabel Marant booties and a white summer knit from Theory. The look was a perfect way to start the weekend, and versatile enough to wear from the office, on the jitney, and to dinner with a girlfriend at the Blue Parrot.
